Rogers Daytime T.V

5/7/2015

Today I had the pleasure of being on Rogers Daytime T.V for a Mother's Day makeover segment with Will Nash and Melanie Case.  Being a mother myself I can really relate to the challenges mothers face.  I know that moms just don't have the time to spend hours in front of the mirror, nor do we have hundreds of dollars to spend on the latest, greatest products every season.  So I wanted to show the viewers a Fresh, glowing spring makeup look that is time and budget friendly.  The products I have listed below I have personally tried out and keep as staples in my makeup artist kit.  So they are not only easy on the budget, they perform and wear great too.  Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms out there. :)

Picture
"Step 1.  Apply an all in one CC cream that can cover redness, brighten your skin and protect it from harsh UV in one easy product.  If you are SPF sensitive then opt for the Garnier BB Cream."

CC Creams, also known as Colour Correcting creams, provide all-in-one skin perfecting benefits for naturally beautiful skin. Like BB Creams (Beauty Balm Creams), they will instantly correct your complexion, plus go one step further to help even your skin tone and reduce the look of dark spots. This tinted lightweight non-greasy moisturizer contains ESSENTIAL SOY® extract to brighten skin and minimize the look of freckles and dark spots for flawless, even looking skin while SPF 30 protects against sunburn. Available in 2 shades: Fair-Light and Light to Medium.

Wake Me Up Concealer

"Step 2. Say goodbye to your under eye darkness and any remaining redness on the face.  I love this product!  It has a glowing look to it so your under eyes look bright...like you actually slept the night before, but moms know the truth.  Keep in mind if you have more than the occasional blemish you should get another concealer specifically to cover your blemishes.  I like this concealer for under eye darkness and redness on the nose and chin."

Rimmel's first full coverage concealer Instant anti-fatigue effect with peptides and vitamin moisturising complex. Visibly reawakens and illuminates under the eyes. Completely conceals spots and other blemishes

"Step 3.  Time to add a pop of colour!  This will give you more naturally flushed cheeks & lips.  Spring is all about pinks, corals and soft reds.  Two swipes on each cheek and blend in with your finger to the apple of your cheek.  Next lightly apply on your lips. Super fast and looks great.  Another personal favourite of mine is the Revlon Just bitten kissable balm stains.  They stain the lips for long wear and keep the lips soft.  I also apply a little to my cheeks and blend it in with a brush or clean fingers."

Inspired by the super-bright and sensual poppy flowers this cute Lip & Cheek Velvet Stick gives lips a pop of color and cheeks a naturally flushed glow.

  • Suitable for both lips and cheeks
  • Velvety, petal-soft formula
  • Medium Coverage
  • Matte Finish
  • Easy application
  • Subtle floral scent
  • Enriched with Community Fair Trade Beeswax from Cameroon

"Step 4.  Apply a long wearing eyeliner gel on the top lid.  Pencils tend to smug to easily, so use a waterproof gel or liquid liner so it stays in place and lasts all day.  I love L'Oreal's 24 hour black gel liner and as a bonus it comes with a brush for applying."

A revolution in liner technology: gel-lacquer intensity for 24-hour eye perfection. Infallible Lacquer Liner provides 24 hours of flawless, fade-free gel-colour with a unique lacquered finish. The included smooth-glide brush gives professional control to customize your look. So intense, so infallible - from dawn to dusk

Picture
"Step 5.  Time to define your brows! It is all about natural amount of definition.  No, you do not need to go crazy and over draw your brows, this product has a gel texture to keep your brows groomed and in place, and a tint of colour to add some definition.  If you have very little brow hair, then opt for a brow pencil and add small flicks to mimic brow hair."

Why You'll Love It Bold and sculpted? How’s that for brow drama? Maybelline’s first brow mascara defines arches with the first-ever Sculpting Ball Brush. A coloured gel tints brows and provides an even, natural, comfortable hold. No clumping. No flaking.

"Last step ladies, and it is a very important step.  Even if you just don't have time to get your eye liner on, curl your lashes and apply two coats of mascara.  This will instantly open up your eyes and give you a much more polished look for the day. I highly recommend MAC's lash curler. Don't buy the plastic lash curlers, use a metal one they are made much better.  Then and most importantly, apply mascara. I love Loreal Telescopic!  It is amazing on super short and long thick lashes .  It has a small comb-like wand that really brushes through every lash for a well defined look."

For dramatically longer lashes with 2X* the intensity. L’Oréal introduces new Telescopic® Carbon Black Mascara, for lashes with dramatic length and 2X* the intensity.

That's it ladies you did it.... This easy fresh spring makeup is super quick and perfect for moms on the go.  Now if you fall into the category of oily skin, you will want to apply some translucent powder here just to set your makeup.  I like the Rimmel stay matte pressed powder translucent powder.  Lastly if you're like me and still feel just a little pale from the winter, apply some bronzer to your cheeks, temple, nose and forehead after you applied your step #2 the concealer. I like the Rimmal natural bronzer with no shimmer .

In case you are lucky enough to get a babysitter and get a night out, turn this makeup look to a slightly more dramatic night time look by just adding a gray shadow pencil all over the lid and along the under eye.  I love Gosh shadow sticks, they last all day with out creasing.

All of these products can be purchased at Wal-Mart or Shoppers Drug Mart.  The lip and cheek stick. that can be found inside Georgian Mall at The Body Shop.

Skin Care in your 30's and 40's

4/9/2014

Skin Care in your 30's and 40's

I don't know about you.... but I felt like one night I was 29 and not really caring about what products I used as long as my skin was clean and moisturized.  That was all that mattered!  Then, waking up 30 and having a good look at my skin and its texture and elasticity and the puffy eyes from lack of sleep or the frown lines of stress and realising yep.....its time to take much better care of my skin and really invest in good skin care products that work.  I need products that have key ingredients to help repair, strengthen and brighten your skin.  Being in your 30's hopefully you are already regularly practicing skin care basics,  But now it's time to kick it up a notch to start repairing some sun damage and first signs of aging.

Cleansers-
There is no specific cleanser to use in your 30's, the truth is that the cleanser`s sole purpose is to wash and remove makeup, oil and dirt off your skin.  So don't worry about looking for anti-aging washes with high quality ingredients, it's not on your skin long enough to actually "repair" your skin and penetrate deep like a moisturizer.  So save your money for the lotions and masks and just look for a product that suits your needs.  If you`re dry, look for a gentle cream cleanser,  if you find your skin is oily look for a foam cleanser. Lastly to remove your mascara and eye liner product, use a gentle oil-free eye makeup remover with a cotton pad and pat gently to remove your eye makeup, liner and lashes.  Don't be to aggressive with that delicate eye area, go slow and pat to remove your eye makeup before you wash your face.

Recommendations-
Bioderma Sensitive Eye Makeup Remover
Vichy 3 in 1 Cleanser
Cetaphil Cleanser
Clarins Gentle Foam Cleanser

Day Time Moisturizers-
Now is the time to kick it up a notch with some specific key ingredients when you`re thinking about a great day and night moisturizer.  Not all your products need to be high priced but some are worthy of spending more on.  Moisturisers and serums are worth the cost to help repair and get a better quality ingredients list.  Things to look for in a day moisturizer are "Peptides, Hyaluronic Acid, Antioxidants and Sunscreen"  Those are the most important ingredients in your day moisturizer to help protect your skin from further sun damage and loss of elasticity.  The SPF needs to be more then just a 15 SPF to actually work.  If you`re already in love with a good moisturizer that does not contain sunscreen in it, then buy it separately and just pop it in top of your moisturizer before your foundation.  "Peptides are a protein molecule that signals skin to make more collagen.  Collagen is what makes young skin firm and tight. As we age, collagen is destroyed and young skin becomes thinner and more wrinkled over time.`` A moisturizer with peptides can help slow the skin's aging process.  "Hyaluronic Acid is a innovative break-through in safety and purity - with very low molecular weight that can reach the deep skin layers to boost the skin's ability to create moisture itself, to minimize the appearance of deep wrinkles and improve skin's elasticity."

Day Recommendations-
Pro-X Age Protection Lotion with SPF 30
Snoxin Serum
Hydraluron Serum
Super City Block SPF 40
Lait-Creme Concentre Embryolisse

Night Time Moisturizers-------_-   -

--
  -

These are very different from your day time moisturizers, you don't need the SPF and you can use ingredients to help repair your skin while you sleep.  Skin cell renewal rate is higher and faster at night than during the day.  Your cell regeneration almost doubles at night.  Skin is also more receptive to active ingredients at night, so it's better to apply products with active ingredients at night as your skin will absorb the active ingredients much better.  Ingredients to look for in a night cream:

Alpha Hydroxy Acid is great for its exfoliating properties by dissolving the top layer of dead skin.. The disappearance of the old skin cells reveals newer, smoother skin.

Citric Acid: Derived from oranges, lemons, and other citrus fruit.
Glycolic Acid: Derived from sugar cane.
Lactic Acid: Derived from milk.
Malic Acid: Derived from apples and pears.
Tartaric Acid: Derived from grapes.

Beta Hydroxy Acid is another exfoliating ingredient that is fat soluble,  and helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles in oily skin by working deep into the pores.  This ingredient is known as salicylic acid.

Retinol comes from the vitamin A found in fish oil and in liver.  Retinol reduces the appearance of fine lines and deep
wrinkles to improve the look of collagen while reduce the appearance of large pores.

Recommendations-
NEUTROGENA AGELESS INTENSIVES -Deep Wrinkle Night Cream
NEUTROGENA Rapid Wrinkle Repair Serum
CLINIQUE Turnaround Overnight Radiance Moisturizer
STRIVECTIN Advanced Retinol Night Treatment

Under Eye Care-
I love a good eye cream and there are so many out there to choose from, but ultimately it depends on your skin`s needs.  If you are super dry and dehydrated or if you have darkness or puffiness, the key ingredients you want to keep in mind are "Caffeine, Cucumber, Green Tea, and Ginseng.  These will all help to naturally reduce puffiness under the eye while anti-aging ingredients like Retinol Hyaluronic Acid and Ceramides help to plump out fine lines, strengthen and tighten the skin under the eye.

Recommendations-
Estée Lauder Time Zone Anti-Line/Wrinkle Eye Crème
OLAY Pro-X Deep Wrinkle Treatment
Origins Ginseng Refreshing Eye Cream
CLINIQUE All About Eyes De-Puffing Eye Roller

Lips-
Keep it simple with your lips and just exfoliate once a week and keep them well hydrated every night.

Recommendations-
Fresh Sugar Lip Polish
EOS Lip Balm in Sweet Mint
RoseBud Salve
Clinique All about Lips

Treatments-
Lastly and probably my favorite thing to do is to pamper my skin with a weekly treatment.  I love a good face scrub, mud masque or Hydrating masque.  Again it just depends on your skin`s needs.
If your skin is feeling dull use a face scrub.  If your skin is oily use a mud mask to draw out excess oil, and if your skin is dry and feeling tight use a hydrating mask.  Treatments are meant to be used only once a week, so see how your skin feels and use what it needs to help keep it at a happy balance.

Recommendations-
Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque
STILA Glowing Reviews Gentle Skin Renewal Scrub
St. Ives Clay Masque
Dermalogica Gentile Cream Exfoliate
SK-II Facial Treatment Mask
Biore warming anti-blackhead cream cleanser

Skin Care in your 20's

3/30/2014

Skin care in your 20's

Now is the time to really start taking care of your skin, the more care you do now the less you'll need to worry about in your 30's....trust me!

How can you start to take care of your skin while still in your 20's? Don't even think about hopping into bed with out washing the day`s oil, sweat and makeup off your skin.  Every night you need to wash your face even if you don't wear a lot of makeup.  It keeps your skin and pores cleaned so you don't end up with large pores and blotchy skin.  Environmental damage plays a huge part in the early signs of aging, smoking is a big no-no and put down the pop and alcohol and start drink lots of water to keep your skin hydrated naturally.  Gone are the days you can sit out side and suck up the sun with zero sunscreen on, so slap on the 30 SPF or higher every day.

Cleansers-

Before you start washing all your face makeup off, use a gentle eye makeup remover like Bioderma Sensitive eye makeup remover with a cotton ball and gently remove all the mascara and eye liner off your eyes before you wash your skin.  Next, wash your skin everyday with a cleanser that is right for your skin type.  If you`re oily with blemishes or you get a few blemishes at PMS time, use a cleanser with salicylic acid in it to help get deep in the pores and treat blemishes and future blemishes like
Neutrogena foam Cleanser while washing your makeup off.  And for dryer skin types, use a sensitive cream cleanser like Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser.

Moisturize-
Once your skin has been cleaned it's time to apply a light weight moisturizer that has a built-in SPF for daily protection like Cetaphil oil control moisturizer with SPF 30.  But if the plan is to sit by the pool all day, then you'll need something higher every few hours to protect your skin like Neutrogena Ultra Sheer face protection.  If your skin is oily this doesn't mean you get to skip this step in your skin care regime, it still needs to be properly hydrated.

Eye Creams-
Its always a good idea to take good care of your under eye area and what better age than to start in your 20's.  The skin under your eye is much more delicate so be gentle and use a ring finger to tap eye cream under the eye area every morning and night. Try Garnier Anti-puff Eye Roller Gel.

Treatments-
Along with your everyday cleansing and moisturizing there are a few things you can do once a week to help keep your pores clean and your skin glowing.

1)Stila Glowing Reviews Gentle face scrub

2)Biore Warming Anti-Blackhead Cream Cleanser
3)Tea Tree Oil "spot treatment"
4)Sugar Lip Polish

The Beauty of Airbrushing

2/17/2014

Picture

Looking for flawless, glowing skin that lasts longer then 2 hours on your skin before coming off?
Who doesn't...... Right!
I use all different kinds of foundations and powders
depending on my client's needs and skin texture.  Not one product works well on everyone so I like to have plenty of options on hand with me.  But if you"re thinking of giving airbrushing a try....... chances are you will love it.  I love Temptu Airbrush Pod system, mostly because I am very conscious of keeping all my makeup very clean and sanitized, and also because it's not as time consuming.
With the airbrush pods there is no mixing involved or cleaning the airbrush chamber in between every product used,  I just choose the shade I want and spray and the color range is amazing. There is a shade for everyone.  I usually don't use just one colour of foundation anyway. I like to use a shade darker around the perimeter of the face to add a contoured look, then use a slightly lighter shade in the center of the face.  Next I add airbrush blush on the apples of the cheeks and finish with a Champagne highlighter on top of the cheek bone to add a soft glow.  Temptu S/B airbrush foundation has a very natural finish.  It isn't as flat looking as some of the other airbrush foundations out there on the market.

**** The pictures I took above were taken with my cell phone with no flash in natural light without any alterations.  I used shade #4 on my cheeks and forehead and used shade #3 on the center of my face.  I don't like shimmer in my bronzer so I used shade #11
as my bronzer and used "Pale Pink" blush on my cheeks. And
finished my look with black liquid liner, mascara, brow filler and lip tint.

Picture
Temptu S/B Airpod Foundation
Offers a Sheer to full coverage depending on how many passes you apply on your skin and the pressure of the airbrush.

It diffuses discolorations, fine lines, wrinkles and pores. With correcting pigments that diffuse the look of imperfections.

Transfer and sweat-resistant,
Oil-free, non-comedogenic, and hypoallergenic for all skin types.
